This message came from the Beaumont Police Department:
In recent days, several citizens in Beaumont and Hardin County have received collect phone calls from what appears to be a correctional facility in the Houston area. The message asks you to accept the collect call at the initial rate of $3.80 and then .35 cents per minute thereafter. They then ask you to dial in a code number followed by a 10 digit phone number. They try to hook you by stating that they are law enforcement conducting an investigation on one of your relatives. THIS IS A SCAM.
If you receive one of these phone calls, please hang up. Local officials are investigating to determine where the calls are originated and to what extent the scam exists.
